Temperature drops after rain, mainly dry weather forecast in JK

Minimum temperature recorded a drop at most places even as the weather department on Monday forecast mainly dry weather with possibility of isolated rain in Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours. A meteorological department official here told GNS that there was no large change expected in the weather in the subsequent two days. In the last 24 hours till 0830 hours, he said, Srinagar received 1.9mm rain, Qazigund 6.2mm, Pahalgam 8.6mm, Kupwara 2.8mm, Kukernag 10.6mm, Gulmarg 0.6mm, Jammu 1.4mm, Banihal 8.4mm, Batote 24.2mm, Katra 4.2mm, Bhaderwah 47.2mm and Kathua 27.2mm. Regarding the minimum temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 14.6°C against 15.8°C on the previous night. The temperature was 4.2°C above normal for the summer capital during this time of the year, he said....

Two Militants killed at LoC in Kupwara, Identification being ascertained: Police

Police on Sunday claimed that two militants were killed at LoC Tekri Nar in Machil area of North Kashmir's Kupwara district. Kashmir Police Zone in a tweet wrote, "Army and Kupwara Police neutralised two militants near LoC Tekri Nar in Machil area of Kupwara. Identification of the killed militants being ascertained. 02 AK 47 rifles, 02 pistols & 04 hand grenades recovered. Further details shall follow,".(GNS)

One dead, Several others injured in Poonch road accident

One person died and several others injured in a road accident after a passenger bus met with an accident near Khanetar area of Poonch district on Saturday afternoon. Reports reaching to GNS said that a passenger bus bearing registration number JK02BH-8493 met with an accident which resulted in on spot of death of a man and injury to several others. The injured persons immediately refereed to near by hospital for treatment. A police official also confirmed to GNS about the accident and said that a case has been registered in this regard. Decade on, Shopian’s Animal Husbandry centre awaits completion

After 10 years, building of a vital animal husbandry centre in upper belt of Shopian is incomplete causing inconvenience to people. Locals from Zawoora village of Shopian told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that authorities after repeated requests started construction of the Veterinary Centre in 2012 but since then they are waiting for its completion. Shakeel Khan, a local, said that the under-construction building was abandoned by the concerned authorities. He said that one storey of the centre was completed in 2013 and then work stopped only to be started again for construction of second storey two years ago. Since then, it remains abandoned again. Shooting stones disrupt traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway; DC Ramban bans foot movement of tribal families

Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was disrupted due to shooting stones in Ramban district. A traffic department official here told GNS that traffic movement has been disrupted at Cafeteria, Mehar in Ramban due to shooting stones. Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner Ramban ordered that foot movement of migratory tribal families will not be allowed on the highway. “Livestock will be transported from Nowgam, Banihal Tunnel Top in RTC vehicles. Amid LSD Outbreak, Admin bans import, inter-district movement of bovines across Jammu Kashmir

The Jammu Kashmir government on Thursday imposed complete ban on import of bovine animals from neighboring states and inter-district movement of bovines within the UT for any purpose, till October 25. According to an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the ban has been imposed in the wake of spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in JK and some states of the country. As per the order the ban has been imposed under Section 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases Act, 2009. Student hangs self to death in Pulwama

An 11th-class student was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his room at his residential house in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Reports said that 18-year-old student (name withheld), a resident of Malwari, Newa Pulwama allegedly hung himself to death on Thursday. He was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama where doctors declared him brought dead. Police have taken cognizance and initiated proceedings under law. (KNT)

Burglars loot 250 apple boxes in Kulgam

Danishwar Hameed Unknown burglars broke into a storage shed and stole nearly 250 boxes of Apples in Amnoo area of south Kashmir's Kulgam district. Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, locals said that unknown burglars broke into the shed and stole nearly 250 apple boxes packed in the store room. "During the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, thieved decamped with 250 boxes of apple from the house of Mohammad Iqbal Shah, a local resident," they said. Iqbal said that he will register a complaint at the nearest Police station.
