According to a recent report of The Wire, individuals from the Dalit people group of Malarh People in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur locale have been living in a condition of consistent dread after some of them were assaulted by individuals from the generally favored Brahmin people group in the evening of June 9.

The assault occurred four days after two Dalit ladies were forestalled by three men from the Brahmin people group from getting water from the town notable as Panduan de Khu (the well of the Pandavas) on June 5.

Albeit the Jammu and Kashmir police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) on June 10 and booked seven individuals from Brahmin community under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the June 9 assault, the Dalit people group of Malarh remain uncomfortable.

The Dalits’ dread is maybe justified on the grounds that the police charged Akhil Sharma and six others under the IPC instead of the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act [SC/ST (PoA) Act].

The IPC is less tough against the individuals who separate or assault based on station than the SC/ST (PoA) Act.
