In Frames- Amid Internet Shutdown and Restrictions 26 January Celebrated in Kashmir

Amid strict restrictions, a shutdown and snapped internet services, the 73rd Republic day of India was observed across the Kashmir valley on Wednesday.

Major republic day parades were held at all the district headquarters, the largest event which was addressed by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu Kashmir, Manoj Sinha was organized at the Jammu’s Parade ground.

Hundreds of Government employees and students participated in the celebration events.

Restrictions were placed in Srinagar and across the major townships of the Kashmir valley on Wednesday morning, patrols, security forces manning the streets, armoured vehicles patrolling the roads were seen across the Kashmir valley.

A top security official said that restrictions were imposed in view of the law and order situation in the Kashmir valley. “We are ensuring that people’s lives are saved as Militants might conduct attacks on the republic day,” officials say.

Shops and business establishments are shut in most parts of the region, as a part of the traditional shutdown on the day.

Meanwhile, Mobile internet services were snapped across the Kashmir valley, and were restored later in the day.
