JKSSB receives over 26 lakh applications for neary 27,000 position in 4 years: Report

Jammu Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has received over 26 lakh applications for nearly 27,000 positions during the last four years.

According to a Greater Kashmir report, a total of 26,22.285 applications were received by the JKSSB from 2019 to 2022 for over 26,687 advertised positions. Out of these candidates have been selected for 17,668 positions.

In the year 2019, the board announced 2026 positions for which it received 1.30 lakh applications, and 13.66 lakh applications were received for 15,429 positions in 2020.

For the years 2021 and ’22, JKSSB received 6.6 lakh and 4.59 applications for the 5729 and 3503 positions respectively.

Directorate of Employment in 2021 witnessed three lakh registrations by postgraduates and PhD degree holders for jobs. In the same year, Jammu Kashmir Service Selection Board advertised 8000 class IV posts, and more than 5.4 lakh aspirants applied for these posts.

The JKSSB did not disclose the revenue it earned from the posts advertised in the same period. “However, with regard to the information sought on revenue generated for this time period, which had in the earlier reply also been held, it is to inform that this information cannot be divulged as per section 8(e) of the RTI Act, of 2005,” the reply stated, as per the GK report.

Official figures suggest that the JK administration has advertised around 10,000 jobs, of which 8,575 were Class IV posts ever since the new domicile laws were introduced in May 2020, which allow non-residents to apply.

The Government of India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation in its latest Periodic Labour Force Survey stated that unemployment figures among educated youth in Jammu Kashmir have reached a staggering 46.3 per cent.

The report “Periodic Labour Force Survey April-June 2021” released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation last month states that Jammu Kashmir’s urban unemployment rate for the age group 15-29 age has reached 46.3 per cent from the 44.1 per cent in comparison to the previous quarter
