In view of the action taken by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on peaceful protestors, the Sikh activists of Kashmir have issued a warning that the committee will face protests by Kashmiri Sikh youth, groups, and activists.
The Sikh outfits, including the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee, have been protesting since September 14, seeking justice in the missing saroops incident for which SGPC staffers were held guilty by a probe committee.
The Sikh outfits, said, “SGPC tried to take control on site of protest and mercilessly beat up Sikh activists and protestors, in which dozens of people were injured.”
Gurmat Taksal (IGS) J&K took an oath to register a strong protest against SGPC. Taksal condemned the unfortunate clash between the SGPC and the peacefully protesting sangat.
As many as 328 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj have gone missing from the hub of Sikhism – Amritsar, Punjab.
“As Sikhs, we have complete right to question the SGPC about the missing saroops and the committee is indeed answerable to the whole panth. We can question the committee and even stage protests but in all this, the law and order must be maintained,” Taksal said.
Kashmiri Sikh Activist, Angad Singh Khalsa, “SGPC was the most beautiful and resourceful Sikh institution but unfortunately, now it has become part of the political agenda. SGPC is now used for personal and political benefits.”
