Grenade Attack on Jammu Kashmir Policemen in Pattan

October 17 Unidentified persons hurled a grenade on a patrolling party of Jammu Kashmir Police in the Main market area of Pattan in North Kashmir's Baramulla District on Wednesday afternoon. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that unknown persons hurled a grenade on a Police party injuring at least three including two Policemen and a civilian. The forces have launched  a massive manhunt to nab the attackers. Details Emerging.

Hurriyat Calls for Shutdown on Thursday

October 17 The Hurriyat leadership has called for a shutdown on Thursday against the alleged atrocities, including gruesome killings, arbitrary arrests, destruction of homes and harassment of students and attack on journalists by the government forces. In a statement issued here this afternoon, JRL said that the state “repression” against people was increasing with each passing day as it gets manifest in different forms of “atrocities being committed”. It alleged that Universities and colleges were being forcibly closed to disallow students from raising their voice against daily “killings and atrocities”.

Srinagar Pours onto Streets, Intense Clashes Erupt After the Killing of Mehraj Bangroo

Intense clashes erupted in the Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainawari, Haba Kadal, Lal Chowk, Maisuma, Fateh Kadal areas of Srinagar as the news of the killing of a local militant commander Mehraj Din Wani spread. The two militants who had been killed in the gunfight were identified as top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Mehraj ud Din Bangroo of Fateh Kadal and Faid Mushtaq Waza of Khanyar. The son of house owner was also killed in the gunfight. He was identified as Rayees. An eye witness told The Kashmiriyat that  ‘hundreds of youth took to streets and clashed with the forces in many Srinagar areas as the news of death of two Militants being killed in an encounter with Government Forces in Fateh Kadal spread'. The armed forces retaliated by intense firing tear gas and pellets.

Mehraj Bangroo- Brain Behind Bringing Militancy Back to Srinagar Killed

October 17 Mehraj- ud-din Bangroo @ Asif, son of Sonaullah, resident of Narparastan Feteh Kadal Srinagar was killed in a gunfight with Government Forces early morning on Wednesday. Mehraj who was with Muslim League is the district commander of LeT. Bangroo is from fatehKadal and is believed to be the brain behind the revival of insurgency in the city. Mehraj is believed to be the brain behind the local youth picking up guns which has brought Srinagar on militancy map. A Student told The Kashmiriyat that dozens of students early morning on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the killing of  three militants  in an encounter in Srinagar’s Fateh Kadal area. Nocturnal Clashes, Raids, Arrests in Islamabad (Anantnag) Area

October 17 The Government Forces late night on Tuesday conducted nocturnal raids in the Dwalatabad area of Qazigund in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that government forces entered inside the houses of Locals, however the locals including women came out in huge numbers and threw stones on forces, triggering intense clashes. The Clashes continued till 2 am, however the Police later left the area without arresting anyone, Sources said. They said that forces later stopped in a nearby area Kuchipora where three youth were arrested one of whom has been identified as Ashiq Ahmed of Kuchipora. Police Officials refused to comment on the arrests and said they will soon tell the details about the arrests made during the night.

October 16 Upper reaches of Gurez valley in Bandipora district and Karan in Kupwara late last night received season’s first snowfall. The one feet snow on Sadhna top on Karnah-Kupwara road and few inches of snow on Bandipora-Gurez road have disconnected the snow hit areas in north Kashmir districts. 39 Jammu Kashmir Policemen Killed in 2018 So Far

October 16 At least 39 policemen have been killed so far in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu Kashmir (J&K) police said. On Friday evening, a group of militants barged into the residence of policeman Javed Ahmad Lone in Sopore, North Kashmir and shot him at point-blank range, while his wife and children were present in the house. 37-year-old Lone succumbed to his injuries in a nearby hospital. He was on leave at the time of the attack. On September 21, militants abducted and killed three policemen including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) in the militancy-riddled Shopian district of south Kashmir.
