The Jammu Kashmir Police in Shopian police arrested one drug peddler and recovered 05 Kg of Charas powder-like substance and 02 kg poppy straw from his possession.
In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, the Police said that in continuation of its drive against drug dealers to eradicate the menace of drugs in society especially among youths, today on Wednesday.
Detailing of the incident, they said that a police party led by SDPO Zainapora Riaz Ahmed and SI Nazir Ahmed during night patrolling at Melhoora arrested one person carrying a Nylon. “Upon checking the bag, contraband substance, apparently Charas powder, weighing 05 Kg and Poppy straw weighing 02 kg were recovered from his possession.
Identified as Yawar Ahmed Mir, a resident of Melhora in Shopian, he has been booked under the offences U/S 08/15/20 NDPS Act and a case has been registered against him in the Police Station of Zainapora in Shopian while further Investigation of the case is going on.
“It is worth mentioning that the said person is a notorious drug peddler of the area,” the police said in its official communique.
The General Public of Shopian especially of Zainapora area has hailed the role of SDPO Zainapora and Shopian Police who are trying their best to stop drug peddling in the area by taking strict action against the drug peddlers.
