Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired the second meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi, was convened to assess the country’s security preparedness following the attack.
The CCS met alongside the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) as part of a broader response to the escalating security concerns. A cabinet briefing is expected at 4:00 pm today.
In its earlier meeting, the CCS had pointed to cross-border connections in the Pahalgam assault and announced a set of retaliatory measures against Pakistan.
These included suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Integrated Check Post at Attari, revoking visas for Pakistani citizens, and scaling down the diplomatic presence of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
“The CCS resolved that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack will be brought to justice, and their sponsors held accountable.
India will not relent in pursuing those who have carried out or enabled acts of terror,” Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated at a special press conference on April 23.
A day earlier, Prime Minister Modi had chaired a high-level meeting with key defence and security officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, the service chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
