After lull, fresh exchange of fire has started between militants and security forces in Kanigam village of Imamsahib belt in South Kashmir’s Shopian district resulting in injuries to two soliders.

A senior police officer told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that fresh contact has been established with militants and during exchange of fire two soliders received injuries.

Injured soldiers have been shifted to hospital for treatment, he said, adding that initial exchange of fire took place in orchards and now militants are trapped inside a residential house.

“All entry and exits points have been sealed and lights have installed in the area, so that militants don’t flee from the spot,” the official said.

Earlier, an official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

Official sources said that two local Al-badr militants are believed to be trapped.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure, internet services have been snapped in Shopian district
