Traffic Suspended on Srinagar-Jammu Highway- Rains Lash Plains for Third Consecutive Day

The upper reaches of the Kashmir valley continued to receive light snowfall while incessant rains lashed the plains of Kashmir for the third consecutive day on Friday.

Gulmarg- The world-famous ski-resort has received 45cms of fresh snowfall in the last 24hrs as per Kashmir weather, while North Kashmir’s Kupwara district has received the highest snowfall with Sadhna Top receiving  2.5ft snow, Machil:- 8 inches, Z-Gali:- 1ft 9 inches and  Furkian Top:- 2.5ft.

Eyewitnesses told The Kashmiriyat that light snowfall was also witnessed in areas of Baramulla district including parts of Sopore.

The plains of Kashmir have been receiving incessant rains for the past three days, thus resulting in the inundation of roads, streets, and bi-lanes in the Kashmir valley.

According to top MET officials, light rains would continue across plains till Friday afternoon as well while the light snowfall is expected in upper reaches of the Valley.

He added that the weather would start gradually improving from Friday afternoon, saying that the weather, as per the forecast, would remain dry on Saturday.

Another Western Disturbance will hit Kashmir on March 14 and 15 and there is a heavy possibility of light rains and snowfall across the Valley during the two days from Sunday.

Meanwhile, a traffic official told The Kashmiriyat that traffic has been suspended on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway as the incessant rains triggered landslides at several places.
