On Tuesday, the United States (US) Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden announced Senator Kamala Harris of California as his pick for vice president.
This move makes US Senator Kamala as the first Black woman, in fact, the first woman of color, to be nominated for national office by a major political party. Senator Kamala is also the first Asian-American on a major- party national ticket.
Senator Kamala had also made her own run for the US presidential election race 2020 but soon called it quits on 3rd December 2019.
The 55-year-old senator from California, Kamala, has been chosen by Democratic presidential candidate, Joe Biden, to be his Vice president amid rising social unrest over racial injustice in the US.
Breaking the announcement on Twitter, Biden called Senator Kamala “a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants.”
Senator Kamala too broke the news on Twitter saying that Biden could “unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us.”
Biden and Kamala plan to share a platform together on Wednesday at an event in Wilmington, Delaware, the campaign said.
Joe Biden had previously served as vice president for the first Black US president, Barack Obama, for eight years.
Here is a snippet of Senator Kamala Harris’s tweet when Indian Union Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar abruptly canceled his meeting with senior members of US congress over Kashmir.
The reasons for Jaishankar’s actions were over the US House Foreign Affairs Committee insisting that sponsors of two recent draft resolutions, urging the Indian government to lift the communications clampdown in Kashmir post 5th August 2019, be present at the meeting; a resolution which US Representative Pramila Jayapal took lead on.
It’s wrong for any foreign government to tell Congress what members are allowed in meetings on Capitol Hill. I stand with @RepJayapal, and I'm glad her colleagues in the House did too. https://t.co/PpbDoB0zKB
