In the southern Swedish town of Malmo, protests broke when a copy of the Quran was burnt by right-wing extremists early Friday. At least 300 protesters had gathered to show their dissent.

A police spokesperson said that protesters hurled objects at them and also set car tires on fire, “We don’t have this under control but we are working actively to take control.

He also added that the protests surged in the same place where the Quran was burnt.

In Malmo, it’s not the first time that an anti-Islamic activity has taken place. Last week, three men kicked a copy of the Quran in Malmo’s public square.

Anti-Islam protests surged in the region after the leader of Danish far-right political party Hard Line, Rasmus Paludan, was not granted permission to hold a meeting in Malmo and was stopped at the Swedish border, according to a newspaper.
