May 05 Ramadan will begin in Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries on Monday as moon observers said there was no sight of the Ramadan crescent on Saturday. Intense Clashes Erupt in Shopian Areas- One Youth Hit with a Bullet

May 05 Intense clashes have erupted in Shopian's main town in South Kashmir on Sunday evening, few hours ahead of the polls scheduled in the area for the final leg of elections for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of youth hit the streets of Shopian township in South Kashmir shouting pro freedom and Anti India slogans to protest against the elections that are being held tomorrow in the area. During the protests, youth threw stones on Government Forces who retaliated with tear smoke shelling and firing live ammunition at the youth. Fine of 28200 Rupees Collected by Tehsildar During Market Checking in Islamabad (Anantnag) Town

May 05 A Market checking Squad headed by Tehsildar of the South Kashmir district Mr. Ali Mohammad held market checking in Islamabad (Anantnag) town today. A fine of Rs 28200 was collected as fine from 29 shoppers, besides which 43 kilograms of rotten vegetables & 19 KGs of milk were destroyed on spot. Moreover one illegal refilling petroleum gas shop containing stock of domestic gas cylinders seized in front of DIG office at Khanabal.

Posh Hotel in Pahalgam Blocks Road for Half a Kilometer- Locals Aghast

May 05 In a clear defiance of law, a hotel 'pine and peak' in famous tourist resort of Pahalgam has blocked the road for nearly half a kilometer causing inconvenience to commuters. Visitors while speaking to The Kashmiriyat revealed that the hotel has illegally blocked the road for nearly 500 meters disallowing any civilian vehicle to enter the road opposite to the Amusement Park in Pahalgam. They said that the blockade causes inconvenience to the pony riders as well as visitors who visit the world famous hill resort of pahalgam. Ahead of Elections, Polling Parties Attacked in Tral

May 05 Ahead of crucial Lok Sabha elections scheduled for the District of Shopian and Pulwama for Anantnag Lok Sabha seat for tomorrow, the polling parties have been attacked in various areas of the Tral hamlet in Pulwama District. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that youth hurled stones on vehicles of the polling staff including the Government Forces in Lorgam, Main town area and Lorgam area of Tral in South Kashmir and broke window panes of several vehicles. Youth in large numbers hit the streets of the Tral main town area as soon as the polling staff reached the area and attacked them with stones. A Police official upon being contacted by The Kashmiriyat said that one person has been injured in the stone throwing incident who is being treated at a hospital in the area.

Jaish Militant from Pulwama has Surrendered, Says Police

May 05 A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant, hailing from Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, Sunday laid down arms and returned to the mainstream, police said. A police spokesman did not reveal the identity of the militant, saying “the identity stands protected . “One more youth from Pulwama, who was part of terror outfit JeM, has shunned the path of violence and returned to mainstream with efforts of his family and police, the spokesman said. Dozens of militants have laid down their arms in Kashmir since 2017 when police announced that they will accept offer to surrender of local militants even during ongoing encounters. Most of these militants have returned home after appeals by their families to shun the path of violence. PTI

Polling Staff Reaches Shopian Areas in Choppers, a Day ahead of Elections

May 05 The Polling staff for Shopian elections scheduled tomorrow was ferried in chopper to polling various stations for the last phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections for the Anantnag Lok Sabha Seat. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that in Shopian, polling staff was airlifted from District Police Lines in Shopian to almost 39 places most of them in Wachi. District election officials denying these claims said that the report was baseless, but it is a possibility. Poling will be held in Shopian tomorrow in 245 polling Stations at 133 locations, all the stations have been declared hyper- sensitive.
