At Least Hundred Youth Picked up During Nocturnal Raids in Pulwama, Shopian Ahead of Elections

As the last leg of Parliamentary seat Anantnag polls reach closer, the Government forces have intensified their crackdown against the youth in the twin district of Pulwama and Shopian in South Kashmir.

Sources told The Kashmiriyat that at least thirty youth have been detained during nocturnal raids in Tahab locality of South Kashmir’s Pulwama District late on Wednesday night.

Some of the arrested youth have been identified as Ashiq Ganie, Ashiq Ahmed Sheikh, Nisar Sheikh, Naseer Wani, Javid Rather, Javed Mushtaq, Asif Dar, Aadil Dar, Naseer Wani, Abid Dar, Javid Baba, Khurshid Liyakat, Hilal Ahmed Sheikh and Rouf Ahmed Dar.’

Earlier at least fourty youth were arrested from the twin  districts  in dead of the night.

Meanwhile Sources told The Kashmiriyat that during nocturnal raids in Chewa Kalan area of Newa in South kashmir’s Pulwama 15 youth have been picked up, while in Singu Narbal area of Kakpora 13 more youth have been arrested, in Shopian’s Draed Kalan 14 youth have been arrested, in Vehil Shopian, 12 youth have been picked up.

A police official while confirming the arrests to The Kashmiriyat said the arrest have been made in wake up of elections. “Yes we have detained youth from various villages to make sure in wake of elections in the twin districts,” a Police official from District Pulwama told The Kashmiriyat.

He however, refused, to comment on the number of youth  arrested.

Shopian and Pulwama will be going to polls in the final leg of polls for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat on May 6.
