Policeman killed by suspected militants in Baramulla

A policeman was shot dead by militants in Tangmarg village of north Kashmir's Baramulla this evening, officials said. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the cop namely Ghulam Mohammed Dar of Wailoo village was shot near his residence. He said that soon after the incident he was taken to a nearby health facility, where he was pronounced dead. The area has been cordoned off and searches have been launched to nab the attackers. Police in Rajouri district have registered an FIR against one Facebook page journalist for allegedly spreading fake rumors. A top police officer told news agency Kashmir Scroll that the FIR was registered following a complaint by a local Farooq (name changed). According to the complaint, the journalist of the local Facebook page circulated a video on Facebook in which he claimed to have seen the local youth with unidentified individuals carrying AK47 rifles and alleged that Farooq (name changed) was associated with militants and had returned home after leaving his mobile phone at the spot. September 05 The Jammu Kashmir police has claimed to have achieved a major success when they arrested a 'wanted' Militants of Hizbul Mujahideen in Kishtawar. The Police said that he was evading arrest since July 1 when other members of his outfit were captured along with arms, ammunition and explosives. Senior Superintendent of Jammu Kashmir Police for Kishtwar Rajinder Gupta identified the arrested Militant as Touseef Ahmad Gundna son of Ghulam Nabi Gundna, a resident of Jamia Masjid, Kishtwar. Touseef was being searched by Police since July 1 when two other Militants of Hizbul Mujahideen were arrested along with arms, ammunition and explosives.

August 27 The Inspector General of Police SP Pani on Monday said that over 15 boys from South Kashmir have shun the path of militancy from past couple of months with the active role and support of their family members. He said police will help those youth in every possible way who want to join mainstream. “The graph of violence has come down drastically in some of the militancy affected areas of South Kashmir,” Pani told news agency CNS. “Yesterday, four youth were arrested in frontier district Kupwara when they were trying to ex-filtrate. August 27 With the militant attacks on policemen on leave witnessing a surge in south Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Police have asked the Police Training Schools in the state not to grant any leave to trainees from the region.
