12 Dead, 80 Hospitalized after Eating Prasad in Bangalore Temple

December 15 At least 12 people were killed and over 80 hospitalised after they consumed religious food offering -- or Prasad served at the Kichu Maranda temple in Sulivadi village, nearly 160 km from Bengaluru. Many crows have also been found dead, reportedly after eating the prasad. The police are looking for five more suspects, sources said. Mr Shetty, who visited a hospital where those affected are undergoing treatment, said a dispute between two groups could be the reason for poisoning. December 13 An eight-year-old Dalit girl, who had gone missing after she went to graze cattle, is suspected to have been strangled to death after being raped in a village in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district, police said Wednesday. The deceased, a Class III student, was missing since Tuesday night and her body was found in a mustard field in her village on Wednesday. Prima facie, the girl was strangulated and she was also raped, a police officer said. There were no visible injury marks on her body except a slight scratch on her chest. 23 Missing after Boat Capsizes in Assam

September 05 One person drowned and 23 others are missing after a motorised country boat, carrying about 36 passengers, capsized in the Brahmaputra river near here on Wednesday, an official said. Twelve people swam to safety, and State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) and NDRF personnel have recovered one body so far, Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Kamal Kumar Baishya said, adding that rescue operations were underway. The incident occurred when the engine of the boat developed a snag and hit a rock near the bank of the Ashwaklanta Temple around 2 pm, he said. September 01 Elections in Jammu Kashmir will be held from October, the new governor of the province, Satyapal Malik, announced. The urban body elections will be held from 1st to 5th October in four phases. The Panchayat elections will take place from 8th November to 8th December. In the meeting of the State Administrative Committee headed by the Governor, it was decided to hold the urban body elections before Panchayat elections. Fuel Prices Hit Fresh High

September 01 Fuel prices continued to rise on Saturday, with petrol and diesel prices touching a new record high in several cities, including Srinagar, Delhi and Mumbai. The price of petrol has been increased to Rs 82.88 per litre in Jammu Kashmir, while diesel is being retailed at Rs. 73.72 per litre. The price of petrol has been increased to Rs 78.68 per litre in Delhi, against Rs. 78.52 on Friday, while diesel is being retailed at Rs. 70.42 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol is being sold at Rs 86.09 per litre (increased by Rs 0.16 per litre), while diesel spurted to a new high of Rs. 74.76 per litre (increased by Rs 0.22 per litre). August 17 The incessant rains and floods continued to wreak havoc in Kerala with the death toll due to the worst flooding in nearly a century crossing 100 and Many are feared missing. Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala continued to be the worst affected in the last 24 hours as thousands of people are trapped in their homes in the towns of Ranni, Aranmula and Kozhencherry. With rains still pouring down heavily leading to flooding across Kerala, 20 fresh deaths were reported on Thursday, taking the toll to 87, since August 8. Meanwhile, the operations at Cochin International Airport have been suspended till Saturday 2 pm after flood water submerged the runway.

August 16 A Former prime minister of India and a parliamentarian for over 40 years, Atal Bihari Vajpayee died on Thursday at the AIIMS where he had been undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment since June. “It is with profound grief that we inform about the sad demise of Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee at 05:05pm on 16.08.2018,” AIIMS said in a statement on Thursday. The former prime minister, 93 was Renowned for his powerful oratory, his stance on Kashmir and poetry. Vajpayee served as prime minister for 13 days in 1996, 13 months (1998-99) at the head of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government and then for a full five year term (1999-2004).

19 Killed as Rains Create Havoc in Kerala

August 09 At least 19 people have been killed in Rain related incidents in Kerala since Wednesday, as it continued to pour in several parts of the South Indian state. According to the state disaster control room, 11 people have been killed in Idukki, five in Malappuram, two in Kannur and one in Wayanad. Five members of a family at Adimali in Idukki were killed after their house was destroyed in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as Hassan Koya's wife Fatima, their son Mujeeb, his wife Shameena, children Diya Fatima and Diya Sana. Landslides have also been reported from Kalikkavu, Nilambur and Karuvarakund. It is feared that many families have been isolated.
