As many as 12 Jaish-e-Mohammed militants have managed to infiltrate into Kashmir, according to the intelligence alert. A report by India Today quoting an official input said, Twelve foreign origins (FT) Jaish e Muhammad men have managed to enter the Kashmir valley on February 13-14 in two different batches via the jungles of Jumagund (Keran sector) in Kupwara. These militants who have possibly taken shelter in the Sopore and Bandipora areas of North Kashmir have satellite phones (Thuraya phones) as well as hand grenades with them. The intelligence agency, as per the report, has revealed that both Kaiser Ahmad Dar, a resident of Pulwama, and foreign Militant Abu Saad - who were based in Pulwama - reached the Sopore area on February 21.

Parents have resented the ‘arbitrary’ hike in school transportation fee by the ‘Private Schools Association of Jammu Kashmir’. PSAJK recently said that after a meeting to overcome the transportation ‘crisis’ it has issued a rate card wherein Rs 1950 will be charged for 0-5 km distance, Rs 2450 for 5-10 km, and Rs 45 for every additional kilometer. Following the rules of PSAJK, private schools have increased the transportation fee by 50%. Parents are protesting on daily basis outside various private schools. Pakistani drone shot down in Ferozpur Panjab: BSF

A Pakistani drone carrying over 4 kgs of suspected contraband was shot down by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the international border in Punjab’s Ferozpur sector on Monday, an official said. The quadcopter was detected around 3 am after troops heard a humming sound. They illuminated the area with “para bombs” to aim at the drone, a BSF spokesperson said. He said a small green coloured bag was attached to the drone and it contained four packets in yellow wrappings and one small packet in a black wrapping. The gross weight of the suspected contraband item is about 4.17 kgs, with packing material, and the packet wrapped in black weighs about 250 grams, the spokesperson said. The drone’s model is DJI Matrice 300 RTX. (Agencies)

Authorities have removed security personnel from late Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani’s house. Sources told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the security personnel present outside the house of the late leader was removed on late Thursday night. Separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani had passed away at his Hyderpora residence on September 1, last year. Before and after the passing away of Syed Ali Geelani, security personnel used to remain present outside the house and road. Sources said that only family members and relatives were allowed to enter the house after the demise of the nonagenarian leader, however, the security has been lifted now completely. The Union Home Ministry has given its nod to the Jammu Kashmir administration to form village defence groups (VDGs) in the region. The VDGs were earlier known as village defence committees (VDCs). In its letter titled ‘Revised Scheme of Village Defence Groups (VDGs) in J&K’, the MHA said that in areas that are more vulnerable, people leading the village defence groups will be paid Rs 4,500 per month each while other volunteers will receive Rs 4,000 per month each. Traffic on Jammu-Srinagar highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside world, was halted on Thursday following a landslide at Chamalwas, Banihal area of Ramban district. A traffic department official told GNS that restoration work was underway. Meanwhile, Mughal Road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts, remained closed for vehicular movement in view of snow accumulation at Peer Ki Gali. In an apparent bid to revive and strengthen the erstwhile Village Defence Committees (VDCs), Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered formation of Village Defence Groups (VDGs) in Jammu and Kashmir. In this direction, Under Secretary to the Government of India (MHA) has written a communication to Chief Secretary of J&K, informing him that the issue regarding revised scheme of village defence groups has been examined in the Ministry and a few decisions have been taken. “The members of the Village Defence Group shall be designated as Village Defence Guard (VDG),” reads the communication, a copy of which lies with GNS.
