The accused, identified under FIR number 24/2024, faces charges of extortion and attempted offense, both classified as cognizable and non-bailable offenses. Earlier on March 5, authorities sealed the said clinic located in Bemina, Srinagar, allegedly operated by the accused doctor. Amid the rise in cancer cases, hundreds of patients from South Kashmir in need of radiotherapy and other treatment facilities are suffering due to the absence of radiotherapy facilities at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag. Officials on condition of anonymity told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that around 400 new cancer patients were registered at the oncology department in GMC last year. Central government grants states, UTs power to act against banned Kashmir groups

The Central government has authorized all states and Union Territories to take action against three banned groups based in Jammu Kashmir under the UAPA. The groups include Muslim conference led by  Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Muslim Conference led by Masarat Alam, and Jamaat-e-Islami. Notifications from the Ministry of Home Affairs empowered state governments and Union Territory administrations to exercise powers under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act concerning these unlawful associations. Last month, the home ministry extended the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, Jammu and Kashmir, for five years, citing its activities against national security and sovereignty and also banned both fractions of the Muslim conference.

Minor girl drowns in pond, dies in Bandipora

A 3-year-old girl died after drowning in a water pond in a village in Bandipora district on Friday afternoon. An official told news agency Kashmir Scroll that an information was received by them about the drowning of a minor Dua Zehra (3), daughter of Kifayat Hussain, of Peth Mohalla Harinara. "After initiation of a rescue operation, the minor was retrieved and taken to Trauma Hospital, where the doctors declared her as brought dead on arrival," the official said.
