Much awaited snowfall graces plains of Kashmir, Residents joyous

Snowfall has graced Kashmir following a dry spell of more than two months. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that since Wednesday morning, the plains have been blanketed with snow, creating picturesque landscapes Kulgam, Kupwara, Srinagar, Anantnag, Baramulla, Sopore and Ganderbal, among others, experienced overnight snowfall, while some parts of Jammu received heavy overnight rains. In Anantnag District, snowfall varies across locations with Pahalgam recording the highest at 8-9 inches, while Bijbehara experienced 3-4 inches. Pulwama District saw lighter snowfall, ranging from 1-4 inches in different areas, with Tral receiving 3-4 inches. At least seven persons are feared dead while several others wounded in a road accident in the Boniyar area of Baramulla district. Officials told The Kashmiriyat that on Wednesday afternoon, a passenger skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in the Bujithala area of the north Kashmir district. They said that the rescue operations were launched immediately after the accident. "Due to the snow and the slippery conditions the rescuers are finding the operations a little tough, however, several injured have been rescued from the spot," they said.
