Ground Report- North Kashmir Village Pushed to Stone Age

Chorkhud a village adjacent to famous tourist resort Gulmarg , lacks even the basic facilities of life. Comprising over 30000 households of Gujjer Bakarwals, it is one of the most neglected village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla District.

Lack of basic facilities including proper approach roads, medical facilities, education and other basic amenities, causing immense hardships to the residents of Chorkhud village.

The Inhabitants of this hilly area while speaking to The Kashmiriyat expressed anguish over the dilapidated condition of road said that the authorities have turned a blind eye towards its repairing, while from the other end this village is just 14 kilometers away from Boniyar.

“We have been staying here since seven generations. We are more than 30 thousand house holds here in this beautiful part of Valley.They said that successive regimes have constantly ignored us. They only use us as vote banks,” they told The Kashmiriyat.

The poor people of missing part of Baramulla district also said that villages, comprising of thousands of souls, still are cut of with the rest of the world even despite centrally sponsored schemes, like PMGSY being present in the state.

The people urged the Governor and district administration to look into their grievances and mitigate their sufferings.
