Landslide hits Noorabad in Kulgam, several structures damaged

At least one residential house and three shops were damaged in a landslide in the Noorabad area of Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that around 2 AM on Thursday, a landslide hit Shalmachi Yarikhah area of the Noorabad area in Kulgam creating panic among the locals.

They said that one residential house was damaged and three shops also suffered damage during the landslide. “The shops belonged to Fayaz Ahmed and Abdul Majeed Hajam, both local residents,” they said.

The locals said that a water supplying pipe had been two days ago in the area and the water was constantly dripping off the pipe, which may have led to the landslide.

Meanwhile, a team of the district administration in Kulgam have reached the spot to ascertain the facts.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Noorabad said that people in the vicinity have been shifted to safer locations, adding that, the debris are being cleared from the spot.
