Muslim man killed in Police firing on Ramnavmi in Maharashtra named among rioters in Police FIR

Shaikh Muniroddin, a 45-year-old Muslim man was killed during the Police firing during Ram Navami violence.

The family of the decease has urged for a thorough investigation into his death and also objected to the police including him in the list of rioters in the First Information Report (FIR) connected to the violence on the day of Ramnavmi.

“There was total chaos outside our apartment. My father went downstairs and was standing inside the locked gate of our apartment when he was hit by the bullet,” Times of India quoted the son of the deceased as saying.

In Kiradpura, violence broke out after Hindutva organisations began shouting derogatory epithets about Muslims. Following the altercation, a sizable crowd gathered and threw rocks at the police. The police initially used a lathicharge and tear gas as the crowd became out of control. A bullet was  fired at Shaikh Muniroddin. He passed away on Thursday night at MGM Hospital, where he was being treated.

The victim’s family claimed that CCTV footage proved that a nearby doctor arrived at the scene after learning the victim had been shot and advised them to take him to a hospital. When they attempted to move him, they discovered that the gates were locked and that the individuals in charge of locking them were nowhere to be found.

The son claimed that with the assistance of other flat dwellers, they were able to open the locks at the exit gate and the channel gate in order to leave the property.

According to the newspaper, seven suspects have so far been detained by the Jinsi police and have appeared before a magistrate court on Friday.

Inspector Ashok Bhandare of the Jinsi police stated, “The court ordered their custodial remand for four days.”aid.
