‘Observe silence for 2 minutes’, JK admin asks employees to commemorate ‘martyrs day’

The Jammu Kashmir admin has asked the government offices and institutes to observe “martyrs day” in accordance to the National Martyrs’ Day and observe two Minutes silence in honour of “Freedom Fighters”

In accordance with the Government’s directive outlined in the Office Memorandum dated January 22, 2024, the nation is set to observe Martyrs’ Day on January 30th, an annual tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during India’s struggle for independence.

The commemorative event will be marked by a solemn two minutes’ silence at 11:00 AM nationwide, paying homage to the courage and sacrifice of freedom fighters, the admin has said.

In an official communique issued by the District admin Kulgam, Officers and their staff at Mini Secretariat Kulgam have been ordered to participate in a program held in the Auditorium cum Conference hall precisely at the designated time.

District/Sectoral Officers, Public Sector Units (PSUs), and heads of Banks and Educational Institutions operating outside the Mini Secretariat are urged to adhere to the observance by halting work and movement for two minutes in their respective offices at 11:00 AM, the order read.

The circular emphasizes specific instructions for the solemn occasion:

– Throughout the district, all activities and movements are to cease for two minutes at precisely 11:00 AM on January 30th.

– Where feasible, the commencement and conclusion of the silence period should be marked by the sound of sirens or Army guns. Sirens are to be sounded from 10:59 to 11:00 hours, followed by an all-clear signal from 11:02 to 11:03 hours. This protocol is suggested where siren systems are in place.

– In the absence of signal systems, a two-minute silence is to be observed at 11:00 AM.

Additionally, beyond the silence tribute, talks and speeches focusing on the freedom struggle and national integration are encouraged, with events being organized in a hybrid mode.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, a district official stated, “Martyrs’ Day serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. The two minutes of silence unites us in gratitude and remembrance.”
