PHC Gulzarpora in Pulwama sans basic facilities

Lack of basic healthcare facilities is affecting patient care at Government Primary Health Centre (PHC) Gulzarpora in Pulwama, forcing people to cover long distances for treatment.

The health centre caters dozens of villages with the nearest sub-district or district hospital being at least 15 kms far from Gulzarpora.

However, due to staff shortage, patients are forced to visit nearby sub-districts or district hospital, locals complained.

They told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the PHC in the area was established in 2008 but from day one the government failed to depute adequate staff here, affecting the patient care.

After hectic efforts, two doctors were posted in the hospital and the facility was kept open for nights. But after the outbreak of Covid pandemic, one doctor was assigned Covid duty and since then the hospital has been functioning with just one doctor and shuts after 4 pm, locals added.

The hospital is equipped with USG and other machines but there is none to operate them.

An ambulance was allotted to the hospital and after sometime authorities claimed that it developed some snag and has been shifted to district headquarters for the last four years.

Locals said they apprised the DC Pulwama, CMO Pulwama and other officials in this regard but nothing happened later while urging the authorities to look into the issue—(KNO)
