Who is Chopping Down These Apple Trees During Night in Kashmir?

The trend of Cutting down apple trees has continued in Mehand area of Bijbehara in Kashmir’s Islamabad (Anantnag) district.

Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that on the intervening night of June 2 and 3, 350 apple trees have been cut down, adding, “Now miscreants again struck on Thursday in the orchards of same village and cut down more than 90 trees.”

Unknown persons, since a few days have selectively chopping down high-breed apple trees in Mehand area, after which they approached the Local Police station.

A Police official said that the Police have launched an investigation into the matter, and are investigating the matter.

The Aghast locals demanded that the matter been investigated on swift basis.

“Earlier 350 apple trees have been damaged earlier in our village and the adjacent Hati village. Now again, they have damaged over 90 trees,” said a Local.

The Police official told The Kashmiriyat that a Police party went to the area and took assess of the losses.

“First we have the August, after which we could not sell our apples, now this Lockdown has dimmed our hopes, and now we will lose everything if this trend continues,” a villager Ghulam Nabi Dar The Kashmiriyat.

The FiR has been registered at Police station Srigufwara.
