The Zilla Welfare Sainik Board Srinagar in collaboration with District Administration Kulgam and Employment and Counselling Centre Kulgam today organized an awareness programme regarding Agnipath scheme at Rest house Chawalgam, here. The programme was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat. A large number of youth from various areas of the district participated in the programme. During the programme, youth were apprised about the Agnipath scheme and were sensitized about its significance. South Kashmir: Gunfight rages in Kulgam

Encounter broke out between militants and government forces in Rampora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district on Saturday. Reports reaching GNS that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Rampora. As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight. A senior police officer also confirmed to GNS about exchange of firing between militants and security forces.(GNS)

A motorcyclist was injured after he was allegedly hit by Army vehicle in south Kashmir's Kulgam district. Reports reaching said The Kashmiriyat said that an accident took place between an Army vehicle and a motorcycle bearing registration number JK03B 7178 at Balsoo in Kulgam district. The accident resulted in injuries to the motorcyclist identified as Subzar Ahmad Bhat son of Late Lassa Bhat, a resident of Laroo Kulgam. Subzar who is a dairy farm owner was shifted to hospital for treatment.

12-year-old girl commits suicide in Kulgam village

Kulgam,  (KNO): A 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the Yaripora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said here. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the girl (name withheld) from Yaripora hanged herself at her home today and she died on the spot. The official said that it was not immediately known why the girl took this extreme step. “Police have registered a case and initiated proceedings in this regard,” he said—(KNO)

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the locals said that the area lacks all basic facilities including water, sanitation, roads, but the officials want to install 'smart meters' here in the area. "They should avail us quality water, good roads and schools before installing the smart meters," a local resident said.
