December 14 222 Militants including foreigners have been killed in various encounters with Government Forces this year in the Himlayan region till 28 November this year as per figures available to The Kashmiriyat. National Conference to Boycott Panchayat, Municipal Polls in Jammu Kashmir

September 05 The President of National Conference Farooq Abdullah has on Wednesday announced that National Conference will not participate in the forthcoming Panchayat/Muncipal polls in the Kashmir valley. Sources within NC informed The Kashmiriyat that the decision has been taken in view of the ongoing threats to special status of Jammu Kashmir. Municipal Commitee Elections from 1-5 October, Panchayat from 8 Nov to 08 December

September 01 Elections in Jammu Kashmir will be held from October, the new governor of the province, Satyapal Malik, announced. The urban body elections will be held from 1st to 5th October in four phases. The Panchayat elections will take place from 8th November to 8th December. In the meeting of the State Administrative Committee headed by the Governor, it was decided to hold the urban body elections before Panchayat elections. The State Administrative Committee has also announced to give additional salary of one month to the government employees working during the election. September 01 A Kashmir based journalist Asif Sultan who works for Kashmir Narrator and has been under Police custody for the past six days has been booked in a Militancy case. Students Protest in Baramulla Against Militant Killings in South Kashmir

August 29 Scores of students from Government Degree College Baramulla on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration outside the college campus against the killing of two Militants in South Kashmir. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a large number of students shouting pro Freedom and Pro Militancy Slogans gathered outside GDC Baramulla. Encounter Breaker and Oldest Hizb Operative Killed- Who was Altaf Kaczroo?

August 29 A resident of Hawoora area of Quimoh belt of Kulgam district in south Kashmir, Altaf Ahmed Dar alias Kaczchroo aged 37 was the oldest operative of Hizb ul Mujahideen in the Kashmir valley. He joined Militant ranks in 2006 and was arrested in August 2007 in a brief encounter with the Government forces.
