Ahead of Elections- Polling Parties Attacked in Several Kulgam Areas

April 28 Ahead of crucial Lok Sabha elections scheduled for the Kulgam District of Anantnag Lok Sabha seat for tomorrow, the polling parties have been attacked in various areas of the district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that youth hurled stones on vehicles of the polling staff including the Government Forces in Khudwani Ghat area of Kulgam district and broke window panes of several vehicles. The forces responded with intense tear smoke shelling, however, the youth responded regrouped in large numbers and threw stones on troopers. Polling Staff Reaches Kulgam’s Ashmuji to Set-up Polling Booth- Intense Clashes Erupt

April 26 Intense clashes erupted in Ashmuji area of Quimoh in South Kashmir's Kulgam District on Friday evening as the Polling officials reached the area to set up a polling booth in the area. Locals told The Kashmiriyat that hundreds of youth shouting pro independence and Anti India Slogans attacked the polling party which included CRPF and Army men as well with stones asking them to go back from the area. Earlier similar incidents were reported from Muran area of Pulwama and Gagren area of Shopian, where Army resorted to Aerial firing to disperse the protesters. April 24 Addressing party workers convention at Circuit House in Shopian, Mehbooba claimed that PDP took a lead against their opponents in the first phase of polling for Anantnag parliamentary constituency. The first part of three-phased Lok Sabha election in Anantnag was held on Tuesday with the district recording 13.63 per cent voter turnout. April 23 Waris Shah A moderate turnout is being witnessed in Kokernag and Shangus belts as People in are coming out to cast their votes in the third phase of Lok Sabha polls in South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) district. A total of 13, 524 voters have cast their votes out of 1,80,000 total voters. in Shangus 4519 people have cast their votes out of a total 88000 electorates, In Kokernag out of 92000, a total of 9005 people have cast their votes so far. Militants Attack Police Station in Kulgam Area

Forces Launch CASO in Kulgam Area

April 16 Following specific inputs about Militant movement, The Government Forces on Tuesday evening launched Cordon and Search operation (CASO) in Yamrach locality of Yaripora area of South Kashmir's Kulgam District. Mehbooba Mufti’s Cavalcade Stoned in South Kashmir

April 15 The Cavalcade of Former chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti was stoned by youth on the way to Bijbehara in South Kashmir's Islamabad (anantnag) district. Sources told The Kashmiriyat today that Mehbooba Mufti early morning on Saturday paid salutations at Khiram Dargah and while she was on the way to address a workers conventions Some persons threw stones on her cavalcade. Mehbooba escaped unhurt but one of her escort vehicle was damaged in the stone throwing incident, Sources said. Police immediately cordoned the area and gave safe passage to Mehbooba Mufti, they added. A Police official upon being contacted denied the report and said nothing as such happened. Identified as Irfan Ahmed Bhat son of Manzoor Ahmed Bhat in apprehension of Police arresting him left home on early hours of Friday morning after which he disappeared, the family has been looking for him since.
