Militants Escape After a Brief Exchange of Gunfire in Anantnag

Waris Shah/ Sheikh Nadeem At least two to three Militants on Monday managed to escape after a brief exchange of fire in the Verinag Forest range of  South Kashmir's Islamabad (Anantnag) District. An official told The Kashmiriyat that Indian Army, PARA, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the forests of Verinag area following an input about Militant movement in the area. During the cordon, the holed up Militants opened fire upon forces, triggering an exchange of gunfire. After, the initial contact, however, no contact was established, the searches continued for many hours, however Militants have escaped the spot, Sources said. Sheikh Nadeem A 58-year-old man from Kokernag has died at CD hospital Srinagar after being tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of deaths in Jammu Kashmir to 85. "A 58-year-old manwas shifted here from GMC Anantnag on 19th of June died this afternoon," Hospital officials told The Kashmiriyat, adding that, the patient was was suffering from thyroid and pneumonia. This is the second death in the last 24 Hours, earlier, a 65-year-old man suffering from bilateral pneumonia, diabetes and hypertension from Pulwama died at SMHS. With two more deaths, the death toll in J&K has climbed to 85.

Waris Shah An encounter has started between Militants and Government Forces in Verinag forest area of Kashmir's Anantnag District. Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF jointly launched the Anti Militancy operation. The Encounter started when Militants fired on a patrolling party of Government forces near the forest area of Verinag in Islamabad (Anantnag) district. Earlier Forces including 19RR launched a Cordon and Search Operation in the area upon receiving a specific input about the presence of Militants in the area, Sources told The Kashmiriyat. An Encounter broke out between government forces and militants at Zadoora in Qazigund area of Anantnag district on Saturday morning. Sources told The Kashmiriyat that a cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched in the area by joint team of forces including 19 RR, CRPF and SOG of Jammu Kashmir Police on specific inputs about the presence of militants in the area in wee hours of Saturday. The work of macdamization on the road has been going on for the last two days under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) at Goripura Badasgam in the southern district of Islamabad (Anantnag). However, the power pole and the transformer in the middle the road has put this macdamization work at a complete halt for the past two days.
